Wrekin MP, Mark Pritchard, has called plans to close Wellington Cottage Care Centre “short-sighted” and a “huge mistake in the provision of local elderly day care”.

The Centre is due to close at the end of June.

The MP said he had written to the Chief Executive of Telford and Wrekin Borough Council setting out why the Centre “was very much needed by the Wellington community”.

The MP said: “This is a local and not national decision - and I oppose these ill thought through plans. The Centre and its excellent staff and volunteers do a great job in providing a wide variety of care and support for local elderly people. Having visited the Centre on several occasions I can testify first hand to the excellent work they all do. It’s closure would be a huge mistake and great loss to Wellington. The Borough Council need to reverse its decision”.
