In a parliamentary question, I asked the Business Ministers what action they are taking to support these important businesses in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.
In response, the Minister for Small Business confirmed that:
- the energy price cap will apply to pubs, breweries and distilleries
- the Government will provide business rates support worth £13.6 billion over the next 5 years, including the most generous rates relief for over 30 years for the hospitality sector.
- the Government has cut red tape for breweries and distilleries by reducing the number of main alcohol rates from 15 to 6.
Shropshire has many micro and medium sized distilleries and breweries, such as Wrekin Spirit distillery (pictured). I'm glad the government recognises their importance for Shropshire’s economy and is seeking to offer more support during these difficult economic times.
