Today in Parliament I received an answer from the Transport Ministers to my question about what work the Government is doing to improve safety at level crossings in Shropshire.
The Rail Minister confirmed that the Department for Transport has provided £34.7bn to Network Rail for the period 2019-2024 to maintain and improve the mainline railway, including level crossings.
In Shropshire, ten of the highest risk level crossings have been closed to improve safety at those locations.
Several local crossings (including Saltmoor, Stokeswood and Micklewood) now have improved lighting and work has taken place at other crossings to install new surfaces and clear vegetation to improve visibility.
