Today, Mark was pleased to welcome the owners of Shropshire-based egg producer Oaklands Farm Eggs to Parliament for a meeting with the Farming Minister.
Oaklands Farm Eggs is run by the Griffiths family, who started the business in 1955. Having completed its conversion to cage-free production in Shropshire, Oaklands is now the UK’s largest producer of barn eggs, with a total of 2 million hens.
Michael Griffiths, part of the third generation of the Griffiths family to run Oaklands Farm Eggs, contacted Mark to ask for support to help the business invest in new technology and produce the world’s most animal-friendly and environmentally friendly eggs.
A few weeks later, they met with Mark Spencer MP, Minister for Farming, Food and Fisheries. They discussed how the Government can boost British egg production, reduce reliance on egg imports, and help British egg producers to grow through better access to finance and more productive and sustainable practices.
After the meeting, Mark said:
"Farming is a cornerstone of Shropshire’s economy. I will keep working with local producers and Ministers to help Shropshire businesses provide more high quality and home-grown food, achieve higher welfare standards, improve sustainability in the food supply chain, and take advantage of new trade deals."
