Mark has recently received several reports of less than satisfactory accommodation at RAF Cosford - in particular the family housing.
Before Christmas, Mark called on the Ministry of Defence to improve the standard of accommodation for service personnel stationed at RAF Cosford, and especially the married living quarters.
He has now received a response from the Minister for Defence Procurement, who stated that "Circa 95% of Service Family Accommodation supporting RAF Cosford is at or above Decent Homes Standard" and that "Improving our Service accommodation across the UK and providing good quality homes that are safe and well maintained is a top priority for the Department."
The Decent Homes Standard has been used since the early 2000s to help define the minimum standards that social homes are required to meet.
Mark said:
"No service personnel should have to live in conditions which do not even meet the minimum standard required for social housing. If the Armed Forces are to recruit and retain enough talented people, the Government should invest in upgrading military accommodation. It is also the right thing to do for those who serve in the Armed Forces to keep us safe."
