Road accidents are one of the biggest killers of young people.
I asked the Education Ministers if they will update the national curriculum to include more teaching on the dangers of road collisions, drink-driving, and driving under the influence of drugs.
In response, the Ministers confirmed that Health Education is now compulsory in state schools. The syllabus includes content on the risks of taking illegal drugs and driving under the influence.
Road safety is currently a part of the Personal, Social, Health and Economic curriculum, but this is not currently compulsory.
Before the end of the year, the Government will launch a public consultation on new Relationships, Sex & Health Education guidance. When that consultation starts, Members of the public and other interested parties can submit comments and ideas.
