In September 2019, the Government formed the Towns Fund - a £3.6bn scheme to regenerate towns in England.
In May 2021, Telford was offered £22.3 million to help regenerate Telford Town Centre, Wellington and Oakengates - subject to a good business case being submitted.
This week, the Government approved the business case and released the first part of the funds.
This is the Government's levelling up agenda in action - investing in towns outside London and the South East to revitalise communities and create more opportunities for local people and businesses. The borough council now needs to ensure these funds are allocated fairly to Wellington and not just to Telford town centre.
